Compliance with High Technology & Software, data protection laws is becoming an increasingly important issue for all commercial organizations. In Europe, the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC was introduced in 1995 to harmonize the laws of European Member States, and while other countries have taken different approaches to the protection of personal information, most now have some data protection laws in place. The long-running debate over how data could be transferred from Europe to the United States of America without breaching European data protection laws ended with the establishment of a Safe Harbor system. In addition, the European Commission has drafted standard contractual clauses which can be used when transferring data outside Europe.
We regularly assist client with notification procedures and compliance issues. We are also involved in the development of global data protection policies and the drafting of privacy policies and appropriate data use agreements.
