From May 26th to 27th, “APEC Technical Assistance Program: Geographical Indications” was jointly held in State Administration for Industry and Commerce, Beijing. The two Australian experts, Mr. Geoff Binns, Office of Trade Negotiations, Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, and Ms. Helen Dawson, Assistant Director, Legislation and Policy, IP Australia, as well as their Chinese counterparts had thorough discussion in respect of the different GI / Certification Trademark registration systems, the international context, the WTO GI dispute, current international debate on GIs, China’s domestic legislation covering GI and Trademarks and so on. This symposium was jointly held by China Trademark Office, State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade in Australia, IP Australia, and Australian Embassy in China. The participants included scholars, experts and representatives from China Trademark Office, Trademark Review and Adjudication Board under SAIC, Department of Law under SAIC, People’s Courts, State Food and Drug Administration of PRC, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and so on.
